What the fabric is
The tennis dress is 88% polyester and 12% elastane. The skort is a polyester and spandex blend. Elastane and spandex are two names for the same stretch fiber: the Federal Trade Commission accepts either on a label.
Polyester gives the fabric its body and shape. The stretch fiber is what lets the dress and the skort move with a lunge and come back.
What the label says
Both labels say machine wash. Under the Federal Trade Commission care labeling rule, a label has to say whether to wash by hand or by machine, how to dry, and warn you off any method that would damage the garment. One safe method is enough, so a label that says machine wash does not have to list every other way.
Some labels use symbols instead of words. Those are the symbols of ASTM, and the rule allows them in place of text.
